I by Sheila Ash

I am the other inside
The doubt, the fear, the apprehension
Lying hidden behind a gregarious charade masque.

I am the other inside
The strident, the assertive, the outspoken
Concealed in a gormless gomeral’s gaze.

I am the other inside
The hermit, the recluse, the monachal
Obscured in a nomadic djellaba of the knight errant

Outside I am the sum of many others
Balance forged like tempered steel
In the furnace of life.
