Epitaph of a small winner by Sheila Ash

I am doing a course on Future Learn entitled “How to Make a Poem” https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/how-to-make-a-poem

The first submission is a “found” poem, that is a poem comprised of material found around you. Needless to say , sitting here in my study I am surrounded by books. So naturally I went for titles. This is what resulted.

Epitaph of a small winner

The last picture show
The dark, pale view of the hills
When I whistle
The silent cry
Jazz.

Death in summer
Such a long journey
The watcher in the shadows
Dances with dragons
I dreamt the snow was burning.
