We did got off the tourist track as well in Udaipur and made our way through the tight, winding streets down into the market area where the locals were buying their fruit and vegetables. For me it was in remarkable contrast to Rayagada market – all the vendors were in one place, chattering away, with their wide range of produce neatly stacked in large wicker baskets and other containers, the market seemed full of life, clean, not grubby: Rayagada market still aches from the destruction of the town, with produce mainly laid out on the ground in small piles gathering dust.
